Definition

Mention rate is the share of measured answers in which a brand is named. The denominator is answers that completed, not questions asked: a model that failed to respond produces no evidence either way and must be left out.

Why it matters

It is the metric most easily inflated by accident. Counting failed answers as zero drags it down, counting brand-named questions drags it up, and both errors are invisible in the final number.

How to measure it

Named answers divided by completed answers, per engine, on a question set that contains no brand names. State the sample size next to the percentage every time; 13% of 15 answers and 13% of 1,500 are not the same claim.
