Independent software review

Short answer: the best AI marketing software for SEO and GEO in 2026 is Rankscale AI for the widest engine coverage at a low entry price, and InsightWonder for teams that need to measure AI visibility and then actually fix it through content and distribution. Six other tools worth shortlisting are Scalenut, Trakkr, Otterly.AI, ZipTie.dev, LLMrefs and NEURONwriter, all starting at $100 per month or less. You can check where you stand first with a free GEO score before paying anything.

Marketing software used to be judged on one question: does it move you up the Google results page. That question is still worth asking, but it stopped being the only one somewhere around the middle of last year. Buyers now ask an assistant which product to choose, read a synthesised answer naming three or four brands, and click through to whichever one the model happened to trust. If your brand is not in that list, no amount of keyword ranking rescues you.

So the tooling split. On one side sit AI visibility trackers that tell you how often ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews mention you. On the other sit content platforms that help you write and structure the pages those models read. A smaller group tries to close the loop, measuring first and then producing and placing the content that changes the measurement. We looked at all three shapes, and priced every one of them, because the pricing pages in this category are where most shortlists quietly fall apart.

Why this category looks nothing like it did a year ago

Two numbers explain most of the movement. The first is volume. SE Ranking measured worldwide referral share from ChatGPT rising from 0.23 percent of website traffic in April 2026 to 0.32 percent in May, a jump of roughly 37 percent in a single month, which was larger than the whole January to April increase combined. Small in absolute terms, steep in direction.

The second is quality. Adobe Digital Insights data reported that AI referred retail traffic converted about 42 percent better than non AI traffic in March 2026, a straight reversal of the year before when the same channel converted worse. A separate full year analysis of 94 ecommerce sites put ChatGPT referrals at 1.81 percent conversion against 1.39 percent for non branded organic. Fewer visits, but visits that arrive already having read a comparison.

ChatGPT referrals1.81%

Non branded organic search1.39%

The other shift is that ChatGPT stopped being the whole story. A brand panel study covering March and April 2026 put ChatGPT at 62.6 percent of measurable B2B AI referrals, with Claude at 18.5 percent, Gemini at 10.6 percent, Perplexity at 7.3 percent and Copilot near 4 percent. Any tool that only samples one model is now measuring a shrinking slice.

ChatGPT62.6%

Claude18.5%

Gemini10.6%

Perplexity7.3%

Microsoft Copilot4.0%

One more detail worth keeping in mind while you compare dashboards. Analysis of roughly 548,000 retrieved pages found ChatGPT citing only about 15 percent of what it pulls while researching an answer. The other 85 percent gets read and dropped. That is why a tool that only counts citations will understate your influence, and why crawl level checks matter as much as mention counts.

1 · Best overall

Rankscale AI

Rankscale is the tool most reviewers reach for when the brief is broad coverage on a small budget. It tracks visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Claude, Grok and Copilot, which is a wider list than almost anything else at this price. You get a visibility score dashboard, citation analysis showing which domains get cited instead of yours, page level audits, scheduling from hourly to monthly, and unlimited seats on every tier.

Entry price€20 per month, Essentials
Next tier€99 per month, Pro
ModelCredit based, rollover

The catch is the credit system. Engines are not billed equally, so a Claude check costs several times what a ChatGPT check does. Teams tracking dozens of prompts across many engines tend to burn the entry allowance fast and move up a tier sooner than they planned. Unused credits do roll forward on higher plans, which softens the spikes.

Strengths

  • Widest published engine list in the budget bracket
  • Unlimited team members on every plan
  • Hourly to monthly scheduling, white label on Growth

Trade offs

  • Credit weighting makes forecasting awkward
  • Tracking led, thin on content production
  • Entry allowance drains quickly at scale

InsightWonder logo
2 · Best measure to publish

InsightWonder

InsightWonder is the only platform in this group built as a full loop rather than a dashboard. It starts by building a knowledge base from your own site, turning page facts into a traceable brand source, then generates buyer questions across research, comparison, trust and purchase intent. Those questions get asked of the supported engines, and every visibility number opens back into the raw answer that produced it, question by question and model by model. Citations resolve to real URLs with status codes rather than to a vague source label.

Entry price$39 per month, Starter
Next tiers$149 Growth, $389 Scale
Free accessPublic tools plus full feature trial

Where it separates from the trackers is the second half. Opportunity Discovery finds the questions where AI still recommends competitors, Content Creation generates and scores long form GEO content from confirmed facts, and Media and Distribution places that content across social, news media and community channels with a human approval step before anything publishes. The formats it produces map to what models actually cite: GEO articles, FAQ blocks, comparison pages and press style releases, then pushed out broadly rather than parked on one blog.

The measurement discipline is unusually strict for the price. Prompts containing your own brand name are excluded from scoring, because asking a model about yourself by name inflates the number without reflecting demand. A question that has not run against a model stays marked as unmeasured instead of quietly reporting zero. Crawlability checks request your pages as GPTBot and other real crawler agents rather than trusting robots.txt. There is also a Shopify app for merchants who want FixPacks and confirmed publishing inside the store admin.

You can start without a card. Four public tools run with no account at all, and new accounts get a full feature trial rather than a stripped demo tier. There is no permanent free plan, and media placement is billed separately through a wallet rather than folded into the subscription, which is honest but means the software price is not the whole budget.

Strengths

  • Measurement, content and distribution in one loop
  • Every number traces back to the raw AI answer
  • Self referential prompts excluded, unmeasured never shown as zero
  • Free public tools plus a full feature trial

Trade offs

  • No permanent free plan
  • Media placement costs sit outside the subscription
  • Starter covers one site and 30 tracked questions

Scalenut logo
3 · Best for content teams

Scalenut

Scalenut spent years as an AI writing tool and has repositioned around AI visibility and GEO. The current packaging reflects that: plans are built around prompt tracking, workspaces, GEO article volume and audit capacity rather than word counts. Starter tracks up to 10 prompts with weekly refresh across ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, one workspace for one domain, five ready to rank articles a month and five optimisations of existing pages.

Entry price$59 per month, Starter
Next tiers$89 Plus, $199 Professional
Trial7 days

Cruise Mode remains the reason writers like it, taking a keyword through SERP research to a scored draft quickly. The friction is that prompt limits and article limits are two separate ceilings, so it is easy to hit one while the other sits unused. Engine coverage on the entry plan is also narrower than the pure trackers.

Strengths

  • Planning, drafting and optimisation in one place
  • Publishing integrations and internal linking on higher tiers
  • Established product with a long track record

Trade offs

  • Two separate quota ceilings to manage
  • Only two engines tracked on Starter
  • List price sits above the trackers

Trakkr logo
 4 · Best flat rate

Trakkr

Trakkr takes the opposite position to Rankscale on pricing. One flat fee covers all eight major models, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI, with no per model surcharge and no credit arithmetic. For finance teams that hate variable software bills, that alone is worth something.

Entry price$100 per month, Growth
Next tier$500 per month, Scale
Trial14 days, full access

Growth covers one brand, 50 prompts and 25 articles. Prompt allowances stay fixed per brand, and multi brand support only arrives at Scale, so agencies should compare brand count as carefully as prompt count. The product leans towards actions rather than dashboards, with a Reddit intelligence feed and crawler analytics included on every plan.

Strengths

  • Predictable flat pricing across all models
  • Reddit and crawler data on every tier
  • Genuine 14 day trial with full features

Trade offs

  • 50 prompts per brand is tight for wide catalogues
  • Multi brand only from the $500 tier
  • Published pricing has been inconsistent across pages

Otterly.AI logo
5 · Best low cost entry

Otterly.AI

Otterly publishes its prices, which in this category still counts as a feature. Lite is $29 a month with 15 prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, 1,000 GEO URL audits, tracking across more than 50 markets and unlimited team members. That is a usable plan rather than a decoy, and it is the cheapest credible paid entry we found.

Entry price$29 per month, Lite
Next tiers$189 Standard, $489 Premium
Add onsClaude, Gemini, AI Mode billed extra

The cliff is steep. Standard costs $189, and Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode remain paid add ons on every self serve tier, with Claude alone adding $29 on Lite. API and MCP access start at Standard. It is also monitoring first, so one reviewer who tested it alongside other GEO products said the findings were useful but hard to turn into an implementation plan.

Strengths

  • Real $29 plan with public sign up
  • Unlimited seats and 50 plus country coverage on every tier
  • Live MCP server and public API on paid tiers

Trade offs

  • 15 prompts on Lite runs out fast
  • Three major engines are paid extras
  • Little help turning findings into published fixes

ZipTie.dev logo
6 · Best for AI Overviews

ZipTie.dev

ZipTie is narrower than most of this list and better for it. It focuses on Google AI Overviews alongside ChatGPT and Perplexity, adds AI search checks, data summaries and content optimisation guidance, and behaves like a practical tracker rather than a platform trying to become a suite. SEOs and agencies who mostly care about what Google's AI surfaces are doing tend to like it.

Entry price$69 per month, Basic
Next tiers$99 Standard, $159 Pro
FocusAI Overviews and crawl checks

Coverage breadth is the obvious limitation. If your buyers live in Claude or Grok, ZipTie is not where you will see it. The entry price also sits above several tools that track more engines, so the case rests on depth in the surfaces it does cover.

Strengths

  • Strong on Google AI Overviews specifically
  • Clean, focused interface with little bloat
  • Agency friendly reporting

Trade offs

  • Fewer engines than cheaper rivals
  • $69 entry for a narrow scope
  • No real content production layer
Visit ZipTie.dev
LLMrefs logo
7 · Best keyword first

LLMrefs

LLMrefs approaches AI visibility the way an SEO would, through keywords rather than narratives. It tracks AI rankings, citations, brand mentions and competitors, and its single public paid plan bundles unlimited projects, unlimited team members, API access, CSV export and geo targeting. There is also a free plan, which makes it easy to validate whether AI search matters for your category before spending anything.

Entry priceFree plan, then $79 per month
Included500 prompts on the paid plan
RefreshWeekly

Two cautions. Weekly refreshes lag in fast moving categories where you want alerting rather than reporting. And the keyword model, while natural for search teams, is a poor fit for brand and PR teams who think in campaigns and prompts. The paid plan has also been labelled limited time, so the price may move.

Strengths

  • Genuine free plan for a first look
  • Unlimited projects and seats on one flat plan
  • Familiar to anyone with a keyword workflow

Trade offs

  • Weekly refresh is slow for volatile categories
  • Public engine lists have been inconsistent
  • Light enterprise and governance story

NEURONwriter logo
8 · Best budget optimiser

NEURONwriter

NEURONwriter is the cheapest thing here and the least ambitious, which is the right way to read it. It is a semantic content optimisation tool that has added an AI visibility layer, built for people who want their pages structured so both Google and language models can parse them. Bronze starts at $23 a month, with 20 percent off on yearly billing.

Entry price$23 per month, Bronze
Core jobContent optimisation and structure
AI layerAdded, not the foundation

Treat it as a writing companion rather than a visibility platform. There is no distribution layer, no serious cross engine measurement discipline, and no crawler probing. For a solo operator improving twenty pages, that is enough. For a team that needs to prove AI visibility moved, it is not.

Strengths

  • Lowest price in the comparison
  • Solid semantic optimisation for both search and AI
  • Simple to learn

Trade offs

  • AI visibility is a bolt on, not the core
  • No distribution or placement features
  • Reporting is thin for agencies

What the entry prices actually look like

Rankscale AI€20

NEURONwriter$23

Otterly.AI$29

InsightWonder$39

Scalenut$59

ZipTie.dev$69

LLMrefs$79

Trakkr$100

Sticker price is only half the picture. Credit weighting, per engine add ons and separate ceilings for prompts versus articles all change the real number. The honest way to compare is to write down the prompts, engines, sites and monthly content volume you need, then price each vendor against that list instead of against its headline tier.

How to choose between them

Start with what is broken. If nobody in the company knows whether AI mentions you at all, a tracker is the right first purchase and $29 to $39 buys enough signal to make a decision. If you already know you are invisible for the questions that matter, another dashboard will not help. What you need then is a way to produce the content that fills the gap and get it in front of the sources models actually read.

Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Wikipedia and editorial outlets rank among the most cited sources across AI platforms. That is the practical argument for treating distribution as part of the tool stack rather than as something you do afterwards.

Second, check how the tool handles uncertainty. A platform that reports zero when it simply did not run a question is lying to you politely. So is one that counts prompts containing your own brand name. These sound like small details until a quarterly report hangs on them.

Third, count what you are really buying. Prompts, engines, sites, seats, refresh frequency and content volume are six separate ceilings, and vendors move the limit around depending on which one flatters them. Trakkr caps prompts at 50 per brand. Otterly caps them at 15 on Lite. Rankscale trades a low headline price for credit arithmetic. Scalenut splits its limits between tracking and production. None of that is hidden, but none of it is on the pricing hero image either.

A quick sanity check. Before you compare features, run one thing: ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the exact question your best customer would ask, without naming your brand. Whoever appears in that answer is your real competitive set. It is usually not the list your team keeps in a slide.

Getting a free GEO score before you pay for anything

There is no reason to buy software to answer the first question. Several tools in this comparison let you check your position without a card. LLMrefs runs a free plan covering a single brand and a handful of queries. Rankscale offers a free tier. InsightWonder runs four public tools with no account at all: an AI Visibility Snapshot that shows how AI answers real buyer questions about your category and who gets recommended instead of you, an AI Crawler Checker that requests your pages as GPTBot rather than trusting robots.txt, an llms.txt validator, and a schema extractor that shows the structured data models actually read from a page.

Those four cover the diagnosis most teams need. A snapshot tells you whether you appear. A crawler check tells you whether you could appear. If the crawler check fails, no amount of content strategy matters until it is fixed, and that is a thirty second answer rather than a thirty day project.

How we scored these tools

We built the shortlist from platforms with public, verifiable pricing, then scored each on five weighted factors: engine coverage, measurement honesty, ability to act on findings, pricing transparency and value at the entry tier. Only one product per brand was allowed into the ranking, so suite level AI add ons from vendors already represented elsewhere were excluded.

Prices were taken from vendor pricing pages in September 2026 and cross checked against recent third party reviews listed in the sources. Where a vendor's own pages disagreed with each other, we noted the conflict rather than picking the friendlier number. No vendor paid for placement, and none of the scores reflect commercial relationships. We did not run controlled head to head tests across identical prompt sets, so confirm current limits and terms with each vendor before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Is GEO software worth paying for if my organic traffic is still healthy?

Usually yes, because the two trends move independently. Healthy organic rankings do not guarantee a mention in a synthesised answer, since models weight structure, consistency and third party sources differently from search algorithms. The cheaper argument is measurement: a $29 to $39 plan tells you whether the gap exists before it becomes expensive. If a free snapshot shows you already appear across your main buyer questions, you can wait.

How many prompts should a small brand actually track?

Most small brands need somewhere between 20 and 40 well chosen questions, not hundreds. The useful ones are the questions a buyer asks before they know your name, spread across research, comparison, trust and purchase intent. Tracking 200 near duplicate variations mostly buys noise and burns quota. Start narrow, watch which questions move, then expand into the neighbouring ones.

Why do these tools report different numbers for the same brand?

Because they sample differently. Vendors vary in which models they query, how often, from which country, and whether they count a mention anywhere in the answer or only a linked citation. Some also include prompts containing your brand name, which inflates results. Compare a tool against itself over time rather than against a rival's dashboard, and check the methodology page before you trust a percentage.

Does a free trial give you enough time to judge one of these platforms?

A 7 day trial is enough to judge the interface and the setup effort, not the results. AI answers shift week to week, so you need at least two or three measurement cycles before a trend means anything. Trials of 14 days or full feature trials without a card are more useful for that reason. Use a short trial to check whether the tool can even see your site correctly.

Can one platform replace both my SEO tool and my GEO tool?

For small teams, often yes. Content led platforms handle keyword research, briefs and on page optimisation alongside AI visibility, which is enough when one person owns both jobs. Larger teams usually keep a dedicated SEO suite for backlinks and technical crawling and add a GEO platform beside it. The overlap is real but partial, and the two disciplines still fail for different reasons.

What does it cost to run AI visibility work for a year, all in?

Software is the smaller line. A single brand programme runs roughly $350 to $1,200 a year at entry tiers, before content. Production and placement are where budgets actually go, whether you write in house or pay for it. Platforms that bill media placement separately from the subscription make that visible, which looks more expensive on the pricing page and is usually more accurate.

Do I need llms.txt, and does any of this tooling check it?

It is a low cost signal rather than a requirement, and support across engines is still uneven. A malformed file is worse than none, so validation matters more than adoption. Several platforms include a validator, and free standalone validators exist. Fix crawler access and structured data first, since those affect whether models can read your pages at all.

How long before AI visibility work shows results?

Expect six to twelve weeks before movement is readable, and longer in crowded categories. Models update their sources on their own schedule, so a page published today may not influence answers for weeks. Two consecutive measurement runs pointing the same direction is a more reliable signal than any single week. Treat anything faster than that as sampling noise.
